How The MIGHTY Have FALLEN In New York

April 7, 2019April 26, 2020 Joe 1 Comment Baseball, Boston Red Sox, World Series

They have nothing left to hang on to.  Their sports teams are not contenders.  All they have left is a glimmer of hope that their mighty baseball team which is rich in history will return to the glory days. “27!” That’s what they say.  It’s a number that in their view is one of power […]

What Seemed Impossible On An October Night In 2004

October 29, 2018April 26, 2020 Joe 2 Comments Baseball, Boston Red Sox, Featured, World Series

The date was October 16, 2004.  It’s a day that I once hoped I would one day forget.  The Red Sox were playing Game 3 of the American League Championship Series again the New York Yankees.  Those of you who were following the Red Sox in 2004 will also remember the game and it’s significance, […]

Wake Up, Red Sox Nation… This Isn’t John Farrell’s Red Sox Team!

August 12, 2018April 26, 2020 Joe Leave a comment Baseball, Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are fifty games above .500 on August 12th.  They’re currently on pace to win 115 games.  Only one team in the history of baseball has won more than that in the regular season…the 2001 Seattle Mariners.  The Red Sox also have the #1 and #2 MVP candidates in Mookie Betts and […]

Ten 2018 Red Sox Predictions

February 19, 2018April 26, 2020 Joe Leave a comment Baseball, Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox enter the 2018 season with tempered expectations.  Despite winning the AL East Title the past two years, the Sox are now the underdogs to win the division crown after the Yankees playoff run and addition of Giancarlo Stanton.  The Red Sox have won just one playoff game in the past two seasons […]

Why Red Sox Remain Heavy Favorites In AL East

September 4, 2017April 26, 2020 Joe Leave a comment Baseball, Boston Red Sox

So, the weekend series against the Yankees didn’t go as planned.  In fact, the Red Sox offense got exposed and the Sox top two pitchers looked mediocre at best against the Sox biggest threat in the division.  After losing three of four, the Yankees have now become the trendy pick to come from behind and […]

Odd Celebration In The Bronx

September 29, 2016 Joe Leave a comment Baseball, Boston Red Sox, Featured

The Red Sox are the American League East Champions.  It took an eleven game win streak at the end of September to put them in the position they’re in right now.  They convincingly earned the division title.  Having said that, they couldn’t have scripted a worse way to win the division.  Like the 2004 ALCS, […]

The Irrelevant A-Rod

August 10, 2016 Joe Leave a comment Baseball, Boston Red Sox, Featured

Alex Rodriguez is “retiring” on Friday after the Yankees game.  A-Rod had his big announcement on Sunday.  The announcement itself and how the “retirement” was communicated was a bit of a surprise.  The way the Yankees management discussed it sure sounded like more a release than a retirement.  Whatever you want to call it, there’s […]

The Impact of Pedro

July 22, 2015September 17, 2015 Joe Leave a comment Baseball, Boston Red Sox, World Series

Pedro Martinez will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday.  Red Sox fans will spend this week remembering what he did for the franchise and what an honor it was to watch him pitch.  He had it all.  He had the talent, the confidence, the personality, and the charisma.  He was the […]

ABOUT

First Score Boston - A Boston Sports Blog
The Boston sports teams are about winning and championships. Nine championships in fifteen years speaks for itself! One of the goals of all four teams is to get out in front early by scoring first. The intent of this site is get the "First Score" on multiple Boston sports topics. This doesn't necessarily mean it will be the first time you hear a specific take on a topic with every post just as the Boston teams don't score first every time. However, the intent is to give you, the reader, something unique and provide opinions on a range of topics that you don't always read about every day.

The opinions on my posts are my own. These opinions may not always be favorable and I don't expect that you'll always agree with them. The "First Score" goal is simply for the readers to enjoy reading about these topics as much as I enjoy writing about them. Your comments and feedback are welcome! Please follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Google, and Tumblr by clicking the link in the Follow Us section!
Thank you! - Joe
